The Firth twins, Sharon and Shirley, are celebrated cross-country skiers from the Northwest Territories. They were the first Indigenous women to represent Canada at the Olympics. Their remarkable careers spanned four Olympic Games from 1972 to 1984, during which they brought attention to Indigenous athletes on the international stage. The twins also excelled in national competitions,

Beyond their Olympic participation, the Firths dominated the national cross-country skiing scene securing numerous Canadian championships and contributing significantly to the sport’s development in Canada. Their consistent performances and dedication earned them multiple awards and accolades throughout their careers.
