Fondation Richard Lemieux
(1927)
The foundation aims for a better integration of people with disabilities into our society, by teaching them Alpine skiing.
Inducted in 2000

The Richard Lemieux Foundation was incorporated on August 25th 1982 and received its registration as a Charitable Organization 5 years later in 1987. The Foundation has a broad mandate to help integrate persons with a disability into society. It has however focused on skiing as a perfect, exciting, fun and therapeutic activity for anyone with a physical disability. Skiing allows a fluidity of motion rarely accessible to persons with impaired mobility. The main activity of the Foundation has been to manage and run a disabled ski program with volunteer instructors who teach an 8 week program on Sundays and one evening. After 8 years at Mont-Habitant, it grew to 50 instructors teaching 50 students. Over the years it has helped start other ski programs at Mont-Rigaud, Owl’s Head, Mont-Video and elsewhere throughout Canada.
