Peter Kirby was a ski and a bobsleigh champion. He was the canadian junior alpine champion in 1951. He was a member of the Alternative Olympic Team in 1952. He won the Québec Division Downhill Championship in 1953. He was a member of the FIS Team in 1954. He was the captain of the Dartmouth ski team in 1956. He was on bobsleigh team from 1962 to 1965. In 1964, he won the Olympic gold medal at Innsbruck Olympic Games.
