Myriam Bedard is the first Canadian to have medaled in the Olympics in the sport of biathlon. She won a bronze medal in Albertville in 1992. Then in 1994, two gold medals, one in the 7.5 km, the other in the 15 km biathlon events, an extraordinary feat achieved in Lillehammer, Norway, a country where cross-country skiing is a way of life and the national sport. Her World Cup record includes 2 gold medals, 4 silver and three bronze. She was 9 times Canadian champion in both the junior and senior categories. After her third Olympics in Nagano, Japan, in 1998 Myriam began re-orienting her athletic career to long-track speed skating which she continues to practice mostly as a means of staying fit. Cross-country skiing remains her favourite activity.
