Saint-Sauveur, August 14, 2024. – The Laurentian Ski Museum (LSM) is pleased to announce the renewal of its accreditation as a museum institution by the Quebec government. This distinction, valid for the next five years, marks the culmination of an ambitious project and testifies to the recognition of our commitment to offering a quality museum experience.
Since its creation in 1982, the LSM’s objective has been twofold: on the one hand, to preserve the memory of the role this activity has played and continues to play in the economic, tourist, technological and even cultural development of the Laurentian region; on the other, to perpetuate the memory of those who, as amateurs, athletes, businessmen, promoters, administrators, instructors and coaches, have contributed to the progress of skiing as both a recreational and competitive sport.
After more than 40 years of moves and adaptations, the museum found a permanent home in 2007, thanks to the invaluable collaboration of the Société d’histoire et de généalogie des Pays-d’en-Haut, the Chamber of Commerce and the town of Saint-Sauveur, with the transformation of a former police station and fire station into a museum, marking a decisive turning point for the institution.
In 2023, the museum moved to the corner of Principale and de la Gare streets in Saint-Sauveur. This new location offered enhanced visibility, resulting in a considerable increase in visitor numbers over the past year. This site has strengthened the museum’s presence in the community, and enabled us to share the history of skiing with an even wider public.
The renewal of our accreditation is therefore the culmination of a long project, as well as an important recognition of our ongoing efforts to meet international standards in museology, heritage protection and presentation. It confirms our essential role in preserving the history of skiing in the Laurentians, the cradle of skiing in Quebec and Canada, and underlines our commitment to excellence in research, conservation and education.
We thank our community, our partners and all those who have contributed to the realization of this project and this recognition. We look forward to continuing to share the fascinating history of skiing in the Laurentians and to enrich the experience of our visitors.

“Tribute to Canadian Women in Skiing”
The Laurentian Ski Museum Hall of Fame is pleased to announce an agreement with Mackenzie Investmentsas title sponsor of our October 19th fundraising event “A Tribute to Canadian Women in Skiing” to be held at Sommet Saint-Sauveur in the Laurentians.
This “Mackenzie Investments Tribute to Canadian Women in Skiing”, co-presided by Canadian skiing legends, Lucile Wheeler and Nancy Greene, will honour Canadian women who have excelled internationally in the world of skiing: the Dufour-Lapointe sisters, Justine, Chloe and Maxime (freestyle/bumps), Melanie Turgeon (alpine) and the Firth twins, Sharon and Shirley Firth (cross country skiing), the first indigenous women to represent Canada at the Olympics. All will be inducted into the Ski Hall of Fame by several of the “who’s who” of Canadian skiing such as Erik Guay, Jean-Luc Brassard, Marie-Claude Asselin, Miche Daigle and Pierre Harvey.
