Born on June 15, 1875 in Norway, Herman Smith-Johannsen, nicknamed “Jackrabbit”” came to live in Shawbridge (now Prévost) in 1932. He was a famous outstanding skier and an incomparable organizer. “The man who has always wanted to see what there was on the other side of the mountain”, for whom skiing is a way of life, was an outstanding stimulator and has become a legendary figure under the name of “Chief Jack Rabbit”” skied up to 102 years old and died at 111 years old.
