Yves LaRoche is a member of one of Quebec’s most prominent ski families. Guy and Suzanne LaRoche had seven children, five of which have competed on various World Cup circuits. One can almost say the LaRoche are born with skis. The family home in Lac-Beauport is located up against the slopes of Mont-Saint-Castin. This is where they all grew up. In 1984 in Europe they were given the nickname “Quebec Air Force”. On December 9th 1989 in Tignes, France, Yves LaRoche was the victim of a terrible hang gliding accident. Doctors said there was no hope for recovery; he would be a quadriplegic for the rest of his life. Getting him back to Quebec was not easy but it got done. His struggle back would be long but victorious. Six years later Yves LaRoche was once again coaching the National Team, from 1992 to 1994.
